A series of conferences sponsored by the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension will take place over the next few weeks for farmers and producers wanting to learn about agricultural issues. KSMU's Christy Hendricks reports.

Farmers and producers can gather to learn about important agricultural issues facing those who live in southwest Missouri in a series of conferences sponsored by the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension.

The conferences will take place in several counties across the Ozarks over the next few weeks and will cover topics from the cost of fertilizer to cattle rustling.

Polk County's conference and dinner will be February 7th at 6:30 at the McClelland Dining Hall at Southwest Baptist University.

Specialists will speak on the topics of the high cost of fertilizer, livestock nutrition, and using a grazing system.

Gordon Carriker is an agricultural business specialist with the University of Missouri Extension in Christian County.

He says the Annual Christian County Livestock and Forage Conference will present speakers on the topics of livestock branding, farm security, weed and brush control, and imminent domain.

That conference will be February 21st in the Clever High School cafeteria at 6:00 p.m.

Carriker says the recent rise in cattle rustling in southwest Missouri has caused many producers to be concerned about livestock safety.

He says the farm conferences are good ways for farmers and producers to learn about important issues and network with others.

Other counties hosting conferences include Barry on February 16th, Dade and Stone counties on February 23rd, and Taney County on March 2nd.

Each conference is open to the public and includes a free dinner, but attendees should call ahead to make a reservation.
