The nation’s number one high school football receiver recruit – Dorial Green-Beckham of Hillcrest High School in Springfield – has ended the speculation over which football stadium he will showcase his skills in next year. He announced Wednesday on live, national television that he’s decided to stay in the Show-Me State. KSMU’s Jennifer Moore reports.
Green-Beckham stood before a gymnasium packed with reporters, students, and family, where the crowd erupted when he put the microphone down to don a Mizzou cap.
“This morning, it is an honor that I will be continuing my education this fall at…(cheers erupt)…the University ofMissouri," he announced.
Green-Beckham has been recruited by virtually every top school in the country for his skills as a wide receiver. Many schools tried to snag him for his abilities in basketball and track. USA Today named the 6’6”, 225 pound senior Offensive Player of the Year, and Sporting News deemed him 2011 High School Athlete of the Year.
In the fall, he tore past the national record for career receiving yards—with a total of 6353 yards. His senior year alone, he scored 24 touchdowns. Green-Beckham said he chose the University of Missouri over the other schools because of its close proximity to home, and because of the personality of the Tigers’ head coach, Gary Pinkel.
