Astro Brief: Proxima Centauri b

Our nearest neighboring star Proxima Centauri hosts an Earth-like planet.

Proxima Centauri is the closest star to our own and has it's own earth-sized planet, Proxima Centauri b. The planet was recently studied at the University of Colorado led by Kiana Burton, examining the effects of the star's stellar flares on the planet's atmosphere. The planet exists within the solar system's habitable zone, but it may not be so friendly.

Join us this week as Mike explains the interest behind the planet in our neighboring solar system.

Astro Brief is a collaboration between KSMU, the Missouri Space Grant, and MSU's Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science. Hosted by Dr. Mike Reed, Astro Brief focuses on astronomical events, the field of astronomy, and astronomy-related guests. It airs Thursdays at 9:45 am on KSMU.
