If you’re the type to be tad bit jittery about flying, one of the questions that might float through your head while waiting to take off is: what’s the safety record of this airport?  If you’re taking off from the Springfield-Branson National Airport, the answer is:  pretty darn good.  KSMU’s Jennifer Moore has details on the airport’s latest safety inspection by the Federal Aviation Administration, as well as an award the airport just received.

A perfect score—that’s what FAA inspectors gave the airport this year after checking to see whether it was in compliance with federal safety rules.  And it’s the third year in a row that the airport has received a perfect score.

According to a release from the airport, FAA inspectors check things like the condition of the runway, the lighting and marking on the airfield, the emergency plan, and whether the airport’s fire department is equipped to handle an emergency.

Since the airport has received top safety marks for three consecutive years, the FAA awarded it the Airport Safety Enhancement Award at an annual conference in Kansas City this week.

For KSMU News, I’m Jennifer Moore.
