Springfield resident Tim Garrison, who previously served as the U.S. Attorney for Missouri’s Western District, has been sworn in as a judge on the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals.
The court reviews courts-marital and petitions for new trials, among other types of appellate cases.
Garrison recently graduated from the Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School. He was sworn in as a military judge Wednesday.
Most of his work will be done remotely in Springfield, but he will occasionally travel to Washington D.C. to hear oral arguments. He said as an attorney, he’s always found appellate cases fascinating because they require a careful analysis of the law.
"The opportunity to be on the other side of the courtroom is really exciting and I'm looking forward to doing that," Garrison said.
Garrison is also a graduate of the Marine Corps Officer Candidate School and the Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School. A lieutenant colonel, he served as a military prosecutor and continues to serve in the Marine Corps Reserves. He said he plans to continue working in his civilian role as an attorney with the law firm Husch Blackwell.
