Branson Will No Longer Require Masks As Of May 24

Michele Skalicky

In two months, face coverings will no longer be required in public spaces in Branson.  The Branson Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday in favor of an ordinance to repeal city code that required face masks. It will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on May 24.

Branson Mayor Ed Akers said he sponsored the ordinance because the CDC is forecasting a continued decline in COVID-19 cases and because of the increasing number of people who are getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

In a news release, the city of Branson said it encourages local businesses to mandate their own safety requirements for both staff and customers.

The Branson Board of Aldermen voted to mandate face coverings in public spaces on July 28, and the ordinance went into effect July 31.  The board voted to extend the mandate on September 8 and again on October 13.
