68.7 percent of registered voters in Greene County turned out for Tuesday’s general election. The number is not yet final, as three precincts had yet to be counted as of Wednesday afternoon.

The number represents an increase from the 2012 presidential election but below the turnout for the general election in 2008.

In all, 130,404 county citizens cast a ballot out of the 189, 827 registered to do so. Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller had predicted a voter turnout of about 65 percent.

In Christian County, just under 75 percent of registered voters turned out on Tuesday. Slightly more than 74 percent of Taney County citizens voted. Turnout in Jasper and Howell counties brought 63 and 65 percent participation, respectively.

Statewide, voter turnout was slightly up from the 2012 elections but were not record-breaking, as some had suggested. More than 2.8 million registered voters in the state cast ballots, equaling just under 67 percent of those eligible. Those numbers don't include provisional and overseas absentee ballots.

In 2012, 66 percent of registered voters cast a ballot in Missouri. The record high came in 2008, when 2.9 million Missourians voted.
