Senate Candidates Agree to Springfield Debate

Springfield will get a debate between the candidates in one of the most closely watched senate races in the country. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports. Additional information: The moderator will be KY3's Jerry Jacob. The panel will consist of KSMU's own Senior Governmental Affairs Producer Missy Shelton, KY3 political reporter David Catonese and Editorial Page Editor for the Springfield News-Leader Tony Messenger.

Springfield will get a debate between the candidates in one of the most closely watched senate races in the country.

The campaigns of Senator Jim Talent and State Auditor Claire McCaskill announced Thursday evening that the candidates will participate in a debate in Springfield on October 16th.

The debate is being organized by KSMU, Ozarks Public Television, KY3 and the Springfield News-Leader.

In an interview Thursday, Talent, a Republican said he's looking forward to the debate.

Talent's democratic challenger, Claire McCaskill says she's also pleased to participate in a debate in Springfield.

Again, Talent and McCaskill will participate in a live, prime-time debate in Springfield on October 16th.
