Springfield Mayor Ken McClure is praising police officer, Mark Priebe, "for his courageous actions." The 21-year veteran of the Springfield Police Department was injured when he was struck by a vehicle at the department's headquarters on E. Chestnut Expressway Tuesday morning.
Both Priebe and the suspect, Jon Tyler Franklin Routh, are hospitalized in serious condition.
McClure started Tuesday's City Council lunch workshop with a moment of silence for Priebe.
"This is a sad reminder of the danger our officers face on a daily basis in an attempt to mitigate situations," said McClure. “I thank him for his courageous actions and I am asking for the community’s prayers as he is currently hospitalized in serious condition."
