Playgrounds To Reopen At Springfield-Greene County Park Board Facilities

Springfield-Greene County Park Board

Playgrounds in Springfield-Greene County Park Board parks will reopen Thursday, May 14.  They’ve been closed since March to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Physical distancing will be required, and there will be a limit of 25 adults and kids in one play area.  The park board says in a news release that playground equipment is not disinfected regularly, but “the virus causing COVID-19 may be susceptible to UV light and humidity.”

The park board says parents and kids should wash their hands before and after visiting a playground, avoid touching their faces, cover coughs and sneezes and avoid crowded play areas.  They should stay home if they’re sick.

Some smaller fitness classes are allowed to resume at Chesterfield, Doling and Dan Kinney Family Centers.

The fitness centers reopened May 5.  Showers and drinking fountains are closed, and childcare, rentals and birthday parties are not currently available.  Aquatics facilities at Chesterfield and Doling Family Centers remain closed until late May.
