Drivers Must Find New Routes After MODOT Closes Bridge

Update:  Repairs on the U.S. Route 160 bridge over Beaver Creek east of Kissee Mills will start on Tuesday, Nov. 26, according to MODOT, and could last into mid-December,.

The bridge was closed to traffic on Friday, Nov. 22, after a routine safety inspection showed major deterioration to the support structure on the bridge. Concrete bridge columns that support two of the four girders were severely deteriorated.

Original Story:  A bridge on U.S. 160 near Kissee Mills has been closed because of safety issues.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the bridge over Beaver Creek at U.S. Route 160 was closed late last week due to deterioration of the bridge structure.

MODOT says an inspection last week of the bridge found extreme deterioration of the support components located under the bridge deck that connect the deck to the girders and other support structures.

There’s not yet a timeline for completing repairs.  MODOT says more information will be announced later.

The bridge was built in 1953 and carries approximately 2000 vehicles a day.  Drivers can use state routes to get around the closing, including Route 125 and Route 76.
