Weight Limits Placed On Greene County Bridge

MODOT is considering options to replace a culvert over the James River east of Springfield after weight limits were placed on the bridge.  A recent inspection of the culvert on Greene County Route J over a branch of the James south of Farm Rd. 168 found what MODOT calls “deteriorating conditions.”

All vehicles on the bridge are limited to 40 tons.  The legal maximum weight limit for vehicles in a commercial zone in Missouri is 70 tons.

The bridge was built in the 1920s or 30s and carries approximately 864 vehicles a day.
