Students At Three Missouri Schools To Get Brand New Fitness Centers

Three schools in Missouri will receive what Governor Mike Parson is calling “state of the art fitness centers.”  Neosho Middle School in Newton County, West County Middle School in West St. Francois County and Premier Charter School in St. Louis were chosen to receive a DON’T QUIT! Fitness Center valued at $100,000.

The grants are awarded by the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils (NFGFC).  School districts were invited to apply earlier this year.  The schools were chosen as the most outstanding schools for demonstrating leadership and getting and keeping their students fit.

Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education in Missouri, Margie Vandeven, said projects like this one help Missouri take another big step towards its goal that all students graduate ready for success.

According to the governor’s office, the fitness centers are financed through public and private partnerships and don’t rely on taxpayer dollars or state funding.
