Miracle League Ball Field Season Begins

Miracle League Ball Field
City of Springfield

The fall season at the Betty & Bobby Allison Miracle League Ball Field opens tonight (9/12).  And, when they arrive, players and fans will notice some improvements.  Over the summer, new chair-back bleacher seating was installed, and the ball field was re-surfaced thanks to an anonymous donation.

The field is designed for children and adults with disabilities to hit, run, catch and play ball.  There are 138 players registered to play there this fall.

The field’s rubberized surface allows players using wheelchairs and walkers to play without fear of injury.

Each player is paired with a volunteer “buddy” who may help hit, catch and run bases.  This fall, softball teams from Missouri State and Drury and the Evangel University basketball team will volunteer.  Glendale dance team members will volunteer as buddies tonight and will perform at the game.

Youth games are Monday nights at 6 and 7, and adults play Thursday nights at 6 and 7:15 at the field at 2701 E. Blackman Rd.
