Springfield-Greene County Park Board Offers Ways to Cool Down

A reminder that when the National Weather Service issues a heat advisory, there are places you can go to stay cool.  All three Springfield-Greene County Park Board family centers, as well as Mediacom Ice Park, open their lobbies as free public cooling centers during heat advisories. All lobbies have seating, restroom access and air conditioning.

Family centers include: 

·         Chesterfield Family Center, 2511 W. Republic Road, 417-891-1616

·         Dan Kinney Family Center, 2701 S. Blackman Road, 417-891-1500

·         Doling Family Center, 301 E Talmage Ave., 417-837-5900

Lobby hours are:  Monday-Friday, 5 a.m.- 10 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.

Mediacom Ice Park is at 735 E. Trafficway, and lobby hours are daily 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

Park Board pools have longer hours with discounted admission during heat advisories.  Indoor pools at Chesterfield Family Center, 2511 W. Republic Road and Doling Family Center, 301 E. Talmage Ave. offer discount admission for extended hours. During heat advisories only, discount pool hours are:

·         Monday-Friday, 1-8:30 p.m.

·         Saturday, noon-7:30 p.m.

·         Sunday, noon-5 p.m.

Admission to indoor pools during Heat Advisories is $2.50/youth 3-17 and seniors 60 and older, $3/adults. This discounted rate is also available weekly during the summer, Monday-Thursday, 1-6:30 p.m. Regular admission is $6/youth and seniors, $8/adults.

Silver Springs Pool, 1100 N. Hampton Ave., which will be open today (7/5) until 8 p.m.

Outdoor pool admission is $2.50/youth and seniors, $3/adults, 1-5:30 p.m. Admission drops to $1 or free with a canned food donation every day, 5:30-6:30 p.m., and that discount rate is also extended to 8 p.m. when pools remain open late. Food donations benefit Ozarks Food Harvest.
