Veterans of Major Vietnam War Battle to Reunite in Springfield This Week

Ripcord Association Website

A reunion for the Fire Support Base Ripcord Association that begins this Wednesday in Springfield is expected to bring together roughly 90 veterans of the Vietnam War.

It is intended for survivors, family and friends of the Battle of Fire Support Base Ripcord to connect with one another, reflect and help heal from the experiences of one of the war’s deadliest battles.

The first reunion planned by Ripcord Association was held in 1986 shortly after the organization was founded by Chip Collins. He wanted to reunite those who had fought in the 23-day battle in 1970. The first reunion was attended by 13 veterans and now the organization has around 600 members. About 90 veterans and 60 family members and friends are expected to attend this week’s reunion.

It runs Wednesday through Saturday at the University Plaza hotel and Convention Center. For more information about the reunion and the Ripcord Association, visit the organization’s website.
