Officials at Southwest Missouri State University today unveiled new logos the school will use when it becomes Missouri State University on August 28th. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

Officials at Southwest Missouri State University today unveiled new logos the school will use when it becomes Missouri State University on August 28th.

The school is getting a new name because lawmakers approved a name change during the legislative session.

The logos are very similar to the traditional SMS logos that are a common sight around Southwest Missouri.

Variations of the logo incorporate the bear head and outline of the school's administration building Carrington Hall.

Greg Onstot is the Vice President of University Advancement.

Onstot says the logo won't be widely seen around the Ozarks until August 28th.

And Onstot says he knows people are wondering why the University isn't moving more quickly.

Onstot says the school took the design of the new logo seriously because it will become the university's identity and brand.

The new logos were developed for S-M-S by Kevin Prejean, a graphic design artist from Louisiana.

In the late 1990's when he was living and working in Springfield, he developed the bear head athletics logo.

He came up with three designs for S-M-S to use when its name changes to Missouri State University
