Mercy Springfield Communities Announces President, Leadership Restructuring

Mercy Springfield

Mercy has introduced a new president and announced a restructuring of its leadership team.

Dr. Alan Scarrow will serve as president of Mercy Springfield Communities. His role includes leading all of Mercy’s hospital and clinic services in Springfield, as well as in Lebanon, Rolla, Mountain View, Aurora, Cassville, and Berryville, Arkansas.

In a news release, Scarrow said the restructuring is the result of a year-long effort to combine employee responsibilities to for both hospital and clinic operations.

”We felt our integrated model had evolved to the point where we needed to functionally combine the two in order to become an even better health system. This leaner structure has made us more nimble and also reflects changes we’re seeing throughout our industry.”

Scarrow has been involved at Mercy since 2003, serving as chairman of Neurosurgery, president of Mercy Clinic Virtual Care and president of Mercy Clinic Springfield Communities. He continues as a practicing neurosurgeon and serves as secretary for the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

Scarrow earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Nebraska, medical and law degrees from Case Western Reserve University, and completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh.

Jon Swope, who had been serving as interim president of Mercy Hospital Springfield, will now return full time to his role as president of Mercy’s Central Communities, which includes Southwest Missouri, Arkansas and Kansas.

“We know he [Scarrow] will move Mercy forward as we work to meet the needs of the communities we serve,” Swope said.
