Musicians at Drury University will be able to be part of a marching band and color guard starting next year.
The university is expanding its fine arts programs by adding an athletic band program, according to a news release. Drury says scholarships will be available for students who participate.
Drury says the new athletic band and color guard will march in local parades, perform and community events and at Drury athletics events. The band and color guard might eventually perform showcases at regional high school marching band competitions, according to the news release.
Drury says the new programs not only will allow music education students to have more hands-on learning experiences, it will allow those who participated in band in high school a way to continue their passion for instrumental music.
Drury will hire a full-time director to lead the new athletic and marching band efforts. Learn more about the job opening here.
