College of the Ozarks has been ranked second in the nation on a list of the 20 Best College Farms of America. The ranking comes from Best College Reviews and is based on several factors. Those include the size of the farm, the farm's integration with the main campus, how sustainable it is, whether courses are taught on the farm and if the farm is used by the community.
The farm's manager, Dan Swearengen says C of O's farms are a valuable part of its agriculture program. He says the farms are like a large outdoor laboratory to the agriculture classroom experience. According to Swearengen, students get working knowledge from the farms and most of the agricultural professors are also farm managers. Number one on the list is Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina.
