OTC Recognized as One of Nation’s Top 100 Associate Degree Producers

Kristina Bridges-Templeton

Ozarks Technical Community College was recently recognized as one of the nation’s Top 100 Associate Degree Programs by Community College Week, appearing on more lists than any other college in Missouri. KSMU’s Anna Thomas reports.

Out of about 1,000 community colleges nationwide, OTC ranked 36 for associate degrees awarded. The college has increased its number of associate degrees awarded by 43 percent in the last year.

Mark Miller is the school’s director of communications and marketing. He says a few years back OTC dropped its graduation fees and began its Back in Black campaign, designed to equip students with needed materials for graduation.

“So Back in Black as in back in your graduation cap and gown. And we’ve improved our resources and advising, so when a student has completed the requirements to graduate, we move them on to graduation,” Miller said.

The college also was sixth on the list for associate degrees awarded in both communication technologies and education, and 24th and 26th for family and consumer sciences and liberal arts, respectively.

“OTC is honored that the hard work of our students, faculty, and staff has earned recognition from this national publication,” Miller said.

Community College Week is a bi-weekly publication that features college news and information.

Last week, several of the area’s four-year schools were mentioned in The Princeton Review’s annual “Best of” book.
