Missouri State University on Tuesday morning unveils its new downtown home of the Art and Design Department: Brick City.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will feature comments from Gov. Jay Nixon, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Brick City West Gallery, located at 215 W. Mill St. The public is invited to attend and tours of the facilities will follow the program.

University officials hope the move to Brick City, which provides more than 85,000 square feet of space in four buildings for art and design classes, will also grow the exchanging of ideas and creation of new project collaborations.

Renovations on the former industrial buildings began six years ago. Buildings 3 and 4 opened in 2010 and 2008, respectively, and are home to the classrooms and studio workshops, as well as the Brick City Galleries.

Building 1 houses the department’s main offices, the Visual Resources Collection and the Brick City Design Studio.
