Being a natural leader is not a quality that everyone possesses. Leading people can be intimidating; and yet, it's a vital part of a successful community.  An upcoming conference in Springfield will teach the skills needed to be an effective leader. KSMU’s Shane Franklin has this story.

Community Partnership of the Ozarks and the City of Springfield will host the Real Life Leadership Conference on November 9thfrom 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Ramada Oasis Inn and Convention Center.

Andrew Foell is the Community Development Specialist for CPO, and he's helping organize the conference.

“We want to offer this conference to allow people to participate in workshops that would help them gain the skills they need to become agents of change. We also want to provide the opportunity for people to connect and network with other leaders across the region.”

Foell says that some people need help identifying skills that might take them to the next level in a leadership position. They may be a concerned neighborhood resident looking to form a committee to work on specific issue, a manager of a small business, or even an executive of a major company.

Foell says that the conference is based on curriculum complied by NeighborWorks America--that's an organization that works to build leaders nationwide.

The cost of the conference is $10 and includes breakfast and lunch.
