Red Cross Helps Residents Displaced by Apartment Building Fire

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross stepped in to help residents of Madison Towers who were displaced by a fire Sunday morning.  The organization said it expected to help at least seven of 16 displaced people.

More than 100 residents of the high-rise building near downtown Springfield were forced to evacuate early Sunday morning.  The Red Cross provided them with water, coffee and snacks.

The displaced people were expected to find shelter through the housing authority responsible for Madison Tower, according to a news release from the Red Cross.  The non-profit organization provided them with comfort kits, air mattresses, blankets, pillows, plastic chairs and food assistance.  The Red Cross said they’ll receive help today with longer term needs that can be met through other community partners.
