Rose O'Neill, creator of the Kewpie, is celebrated during the International Rose O’Neill Club Foundation’s annual Kewpiesta. O’Neill enthusiasts and collectors gather to share and study the life and works of O'Neill. This year’s event will be April 15-18, 2026 at the Branson Towers Hotel.
Begun in 1967, Kewpiesta combines educational seminars with opportunities to buy and sell Rose O’Neill and Rose O’Neill-related items. Two events are open to the public, trade corner scheduled for 1:45-3:15, Friday, April 17 and auction at 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18. Other events require a registration fee.
O’Neill was a multi-talented individual whose contributions made an indelible impact on diverse areas of society. Born June 25, 1874, O’Neill is known as one of the foremost artists and illustrators at the turn of the 20th century and being the first American woman cartoonist; a women’s rights activist; an author and poet; and inventor of the Kewpie, Scootles, and Ho-Ho. She and her family lived for many years at Bonniebrook located north of Branson.
IROCF was formed in 1967 with the objectives of preserving and perpetuating the memory of Rose O’Neill and her works, promoting the cultural arts through annual scholarships, and holding an annual celebration in Branson, MO. In this lavish musical, Broadway star Don Hewes' (Fred Astaire) dancing partner (Ann Miller) goes solo, and Don declares that he can make a hit performer out of the next dancer he sees. This turns out to be the inexperienced Hannah (Judy Garland), who bristles as Don tries to make her into his old partner. But as he realizes that he is falling in love with Hannah, Don knows that he must let her grow into her own kind of dancer if he wants her to reach her full potential.
