S'mores and Cicadas

S'mores and Cicadas

They're here! After spending more than a decade underground, the cicadas of Brood XIX are emerging across the Ozarks. These insects emerge every 13 years along with the annual cicadas that emerge every year.

A Roaring River State Park naturalist will give a brief presentation on periodical and annual cicadas. Then, gather around the fire pit to make s'mores!. S'mores materials will be provided. Stick around as the sun sets to listen to the cicadas sing their age-old songs.

Meet in the parking lot area of Big Sugar Creek State Park. Seating is not available at the park, so bring your own. You should also consider bringing insect repellent and flashlights or lanterns.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

For more information, call the Roaring River State Park naturalist at 417-847-3742.
