Perseids Meteor Shower Star Party
The Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield will host a Perseids meteor shower viewing and event with the assistance of the Springfield Astronomical Society on August 12th from 8:00 pm – 11:00 pm. Games and activities will take place at the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Visitor Center. Meteor viewing, telescopes, and constellation tours will be at stop 5 of the tour road. Tarps will be laid out, but you are advised to bring a blanket or chairs for more comfortable viewing.
Complete the Junior Ranger Night Explorers program to earn a special night explorer patch, engage in games and experiments to learn about space and the night sky, join a constellation tour, look through a telescope at deep space, and learn about the evolution of our knowledge of stars and space throughout history.

- 8:00 pm – 10:30 pm | Kids games, experiments, & Nigh Sky Junior Ranger books
- 8:00 pm – 8:30 pm & 9:00 pm – 9:30 pm | Space Trivia
- 8:30 pm – 11:00 pm | Meteor Shower Viewing & Telescopes
- 9:00 pm – 10:30 pm | Constellation Tours (every half hour)
Entrance to Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield is free. Parking is limited and on a first come first served basis. Personal telescopes are not permitted as part of the event. For additional information or to request program accommodations please call the visitor center at (417) 732-2662.

Administered by the National Park Service, Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield preserves the site of the first major battle of the Civil War in the West. The Confederate victory on August 10, 1861 focused greater national attention on the war in Missouri, leading to greater federal military action. Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield is located 10 miles southwest of Springfield, Missouri at the intersection of Highway ZZ and Farm Road 182.
