A new pork processing facility in southwest Missouri is expected to create 160 new jobs, according to the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

Moon Ridge Foods cut the ribbon on its flagship processing plant in Pleasant Hope Friday.  The DED says it represents an investment of $54 million over the next two years.

Moon Ridge Foods is “a farm-to-plate operation” that “offers uniquely artisan meat cutting,” according to a news release.

The 110,000 square-foot facility is expected to process about 600,000 hogs annually once it’s up and running.  Production is expected to begin ramping up later this month.

The DED says “a high priority was placed on animal welfare during the development of the business.”

Approximately 30 percent of the pork produced by Moon Ridge Foods will be exported to new markets in Asia.
