The Friends of the Library is gearing up for their annual Fall Book Sale this week. It starts tomorrow night (10/25) with a Friends Preview Night from 5 to 8 at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds’ E-Plex and continues through Sunday (10/30). Anyone can purchase a Friends membership for $5 at the door tomorrow.
Kathleen O’Dell, community relations director for the Springfield-Greene County Libraries, said eight trailers-full of books, CD’s and DVD’s will be for sale at the event, including new and like-new fiction, cookbooks, gardening books, and a lot of history and military books.
"Including a lot of them on the subject of Napoleon and the Napoleonic Wars, and we also have lots of Civil War books, and we have an encyclopedia of U.S. Army uniforms. We also have a lot of World War I books," she said.
There will also be children’s books, sci-fi, romance, mystery, bestsellers and more.
"These are great bargains. You can get these books for $1 to $3 when the retail price is up to $25, $30," she said.
Proceeds will be used for programs and upkeep at branch libraries.
"Children's programs during the Summer Reading Program. We have a lot of performers during that. We have the concert series at the Library Center, and the Friends' money pays for those," said O'Dell.
The Friends of the Library donated and pledged up to $500,000 for the Brentwood Branch renovations. A grand opening for the library is planned for January 7, 2017.
Regular Fall Book Sale hours are Wednesday through Saturday (10/26-10/29) 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday (10/30) from 1 to 5 p.m.
