Tap Into Your Creative Side During Paint a Pole Weekend

Moon City Creative District

Drive or walk through a neighborhood in north Springfield and you’ll see telephone poles painted in bright colors and in a variety of designs.  The Moon City Creative District is working to paint as many poles in the area, primarily in the Woodland Heights Neighborhood.

Moon City is a live, work creative district, according to Steve Miller who lives in the area and is active in Moon City.  Springfield City Council just approved a resolution allowing anyone in the district to work from their home and to apply for limited retail hours to sell artwork from their houses, he said.

Over the next couple of days, even more poles will go from drab to fab.  The Moon City Creative District will host Paint a Pole Weekend.

"Paint a Pole Weekend is an opportunity for creative people  in the community to come together and help us to define the boundaries of the Moon City Creative District by painting some sort of an artist rendition of anything that a person would like on one of these utility poles in our district," he said.

According to Miller, anyone can take part--you don't have to be an artist, and families with kids are welcome.

He said 37 poles have been painted so far.  He expects that number to reach 100 by the time the event ends on Sunday.  Hours tomorrow (4/25) are 10 to 2 and Sunday noon to 4.  Find more information here.
