SMS dedicated a plaza to its former president Marshall Gordon today. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

A CROWD OF ABOUT 70 PEOPLE GATHERED OUTSIDE S-M-S-U'S ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, CARRINGTON HALL THIS AFTERNOON FOR THE DEDICATION OF MARSHALL GORDON PLAZA.

GORDON SERVED AS UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT FROM 1983 TO 1992.

GREG ONSTOT, VICE PRESIDENT FOR UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT EXPLAINED WHY THE PLAZA ON THE WEST SIDE OF CARRINGTON HALL WAS NAMED FOR GORDON.

WHEN MARSHALL GORDON LEFT S-M-S, JOHN KEISER TOOK OVER AS PRESIDENT.

HE SPOKE AT TODAY'S DEDICATION CEREMONY ABOUT THE LEGACY OF MARSHALL GORDON.

AT TODAY'S DEDICATION CEREMONY, MICHELLE NAHON ALSO SPOKE.

IN 1984, SHE BECAME THE FIRST STUDENT MEMBER OF THE S-M-S BOARD OF REGENTS.

EVEN THOUGH ENROLLMENT NUMBERS WENT UP DURING MARSHALL GORDON'S ADMINISTRATION, MICHELLE NAHON SAYS HE TRIED TO KEEP A PERSONAL CONNECTION TO STUDENTS.

A PLAQUE ON THE PLAZA OUTSIDE CARRINGTON HALL COMMEMORATES MARSHALL GORDON'S 9 YEAR TERM AS S-M-S PRESIDENT.

TODAY'S DEDICATION CEREMONY WAS THE THIRD OF FOUR CENETENNIAL CELEBRATIONS THIS YEAR HONORING FOUR FORMER PRESIDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE BUILDINGS NAMED AFTER THEM.

ON FEBRUARY 18TH, THE TRAYWICK PARLIMENTARY ROOM WAS DEDICATED IN HONOR OF FORMER S-M-S PRESIDENT LELAND TRAYWICK. ON MAY 13TH, THE JOHN KEISER PLAZA AND AMPHITHEATRE WAS DEDICATED AND ON JUNE 20TH, THE UNIVERSITY WILL DEDICATE THE ARTHUR MALLORY PLAZA.
