Voters Decide a Variety of Candidates and Issues

Voters in Greene County have decided a few issues and put several candidates into office on school boards, boards of aldermen and city council.In Springfield, Doug Burlison defeated Christopher Donegan for General City Council Seat C. Thomas Bieker was the winner over Fred Ellison for General Council Seat D. Cindy Rushefsky narrowly defeated Jan Fisk in the race for Council member Zone 2. And Jerry Compton won the race for Council Zone 3 over Stephen Pennington.For Springfield Board of Education the winners are L. Denise Frederick and Dr. Tom Prater.Springfield voters approved a measure banning the sale, consumption or advertisement of alcohol in movie theatres with more than 25% of their ticket sales to those under the age of 21. The measure passed with 52% of the vote.53% of City voters who cast ballots yesterday also said yes to a ballot issue that prohibits smoking in enclosed public places, places of employment, private clubs, within five feet of outdoor playgrounds and within five feet of outside entrances. A tax issue in the Ebenezer Fire Protection District narrowly passed with 51% of the vote.Voters in Walnut Grove said yes to increasing the school districts operating tax levy by 50 cents.In Ash Grove, a measure to allow the school district to fully eliminate the Proposition C Sales Tax Rollback in its operating levy passed with 57% of the vote.For more election results, visit www.greenecountymo.org/election.
