Each August, Edinburgh, Scotland is home to over 1,800 different performances of music, theatre, dance, and comedy as a part of the Fringe Festival. Joining the performers for the festival in August 2011, will be Central High School’s Theatre Department. KSMU’s Adam Murphy reports.

The American High School Theatre Festival has selected Central High School as one of the groups representing the United States at the Fringe Festival in August, 2011.

Theatre instructor Gretchen Teague says the department attended the same festival in 2008, and now has been invited back.

Students will stay in London before they journey to Edinburgh to perform and experience the world’s largest arts festival. Central will have four performance slots at a festival venue equipped with a professional team to meet their technical needs.

According to the festival, in order to be selected, schools must be first be nominated as one of the nation’s top programs before they can submit an application. The festival’s board of advisors says it then chooses the schools based on their most recent bodies of work, awards, community involvement, philosophies, and recommendations.
