Missouri State University has hired a nationally recognized search firm to lead a 15-member committee in its search for the next university president. KSMU's Justin Lux reports.

The selection comes after a six week process that attracted nine different proposals, and it will cost the university $175,000.

R. William Funk and Associates is located in Dallas, Texas, and is one of the most highly respected search firms of higher education, according to the university. Funk, who will personally assist Missouri State, has performed more than 300 searches for university presidents and chancellors.

With the university’s 2005 name change to MSU and the changes made under current President Michael Neitzel, Funk said in a news release from the university that he believes that the position will be very attractive.

Funk will develop the pool of candidates and continue to work with the committee until the finalists are brought to campus for interviews.

This is the first time the university has hired a search firm to help find a new president.

For KSMU News, I'm Justin Lux.
