The speed limit on a portion of Highway 65 has been reduced from 60 to 45 mph because of work in the median.The lower speed limit currently is between Battlefield and Route 60 but will gradually shift north as work progresses from south to north.According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, drivers will encounter 45 mph work zone speed limits 24/7 into mid 2010 at the spots where crews are working in the median. The work is part of an ongoing project to six-lane Route 65 through the city.A ticket for speeding in the Route 65 project zone will cost a driver $250 on top of other fines.Meanwhile, roadwork on two major streets in Springfield could cause some slowdowns at night this week. Nighttime pavement repairs on Kansas Expressway and Chestnut Expressway will continue today thru Wednesday night from 8:30 pm to 6 am.Drivers can expect lane closings and equipment and workers close to traffic.The work is on Kansas Expressway at Atlantic and Chestnut Expressway between Grant and Booneville. Wednesday night various lanes will be closed at the Kansas and Chestnut Expressway intersection.
