Springfield’s Motor Vehicle License Office will be under new management and the public may soon benefit. KSMU’s Nathan McVay reports.

When Governor Jay Nixon took office on Jan 12, Nixon wanted to create a new bidding process for groups to submit proposals to run licensing offices all across Missouri.

“When this happened we saw this as an opportunity for us to not only continue to serve the community that we all live, work and serve daily but also to be able to enhance the services that are provided by the office,” Bontiea Goss said.

That’s Bontiea Goss, the Chief Operations Officer for Alternative Opportunities, or AO.

Alternative Opportunities Inc. is a Springfield based not-for profit with a mission to provide career training and services to disabled Missourians and families in crisis.

On Wednesday, Governor Jay Nixon’s office awarded Alternative Opportunities the right to run the license office.

Goss assures that no employees will lose their jobs because of this switch and the public will benefit too.

“We will be extending the hours. The office will be open everyday until 6 pm and be open on Saturday from 9 to 1,” she said.

Goss also says there will be a courtesy clerk on hand at all times to help assure customers they have all papers needed before waiting in line.

Goss says the opportunity to run the license office will allow her organization to continue to meet its goals.

“Our organization is very committed to employment and work. It will help opportunities in providing work site opportunities for many people that we serve,” she said.

The license office is located at 3061 South Fremont Ave. For KSMU news, I’m Nathan McVay.
