It's time once again for food, fun, livestock and live music at the Ozark Empire Fair. The fair began its ten-day run today. KSMU's Michele Skalicky has more.

The annual Ozarks tradition features 41 rides, a variety of live music and, of course, food. Acting Fair Director Nancy Bright says there should be something for everyone.

"We'll have the traditional fair favorites of corn dogs, which is a typical fair food. We're also going to have funnel cakes and all the cotton candy you could want to eat. A new thing we're going to have this year is called the sea dog. And it's basically on a coney bun, but it's a piece of fish and then they put cole slaw on top of it. DC is famous for his slaw dogs, which is cole slaw on the coney dog, so there's a lot of different options for people to try out as well as some nice cool treats like smoothies and frozen lemonade and those things that people love to have."

And, while you enjoy the food, you can take in a show or two.

"We have a grandstand stage and show that'll be each night as well as two other free stages, one of which will be karaoke, and the other will be some local bands that'll be performing."

The fair opens at 1 each day and end at midnight. Tickets can be purchased at the gate. To find out more, call 833-2660 or go to ozarkempirefair.com.
