Missouri State University’s Bias Response Team has handled 20 cases of perceived prejudice so far this year.

The unit is comprised of nine officials, including students, faculty and staff; and is headed by MSU Dean of Students Dr. Thomas Lane.

Students attending Missouri State University on both the Springfield and West Plains’ campuses will pay more in tuition beginning this fall.

The MSU Board of Governors formally approved the changes on Wednesday. It comes as the Missouri legislature is expected to approve a 9 percent reduction in appropriations for the state’s colleges and universities, as recommended by the governor, due to a state revenue shortfall.

Missouri State University President Clif Smart says $1.24 million in cuts to academic departments remain to balance out next year’s budget. Scenarios on how to do that, including reducing enrollment incentives for online course instructors, were discussed Monday during a town-hall style forum that drew some 350 spectators.

Since Gov. Eric Greitens announced his Fiscal Year 2018 budget proposal in February, and in some cases before that, there have been ongoing discussions amongst administrators at Missouri’s colleges and universities about how to manage fewer appropriations.
