Hacking 4 Good; An Organization with a Dream

Hack 4 Good

When we think of hacking, we usually take a negative view.  The image brought to mind is that of scurrilous, disaffected individuals intent on causing harm in the computers of the world, while enriching themselves as much as possible.  An organization, “Hack 4 Good SGF” wants to change that impression.  They see hacking as a way to build solutions to problems that exist in our everyday, computer-dominated world.

This week Greg Johnson, who works with the group, stops by Stem Spots to talk about their goals and let us know about the special competition coming up in November.  At that event, students and professionals will have the opportunity to work on a computing problem tied to helping others in the Springfield area.

Dr. David Cornelison has been working as an educator and scientist in Arizona and Missouri universities for the last 32 years. From 2010-2018, he was the head of the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Materials Science at Missouri State University. His research interests lie at the intersection of experimental condensed-matter physics and astrophysics, while his educational efforts have focused on outreach to the K-12 school system. Most of all, he believes in curiosity-driven learning in the sciences and all other fields.
