Need to know when to plant your beans? Want to find out how to get rid of those bugs eating your tomato plants? A Master Gardener hotline, staffed with experienced and trained volunteers, can provide answers.
The hotline, which just reopened for the season, is answered from 9 am to 4:30 pm every business day until October and on Saturdays from 9 am to noon.
The service began in 1982 and each year provides answers to more than 2000 questions about gardening.
“It is impossible for one person to handle all the phone calls received in the Greene County office pertaining to horticulture,” said Patrick Byers, horticulture specialist with University Extension. “However, through the Master Gardener Program, trained volunteers assist with many of the calls relating to home horticulture.”
Callers want to find out about flower and vegetable gardening, turf grass management, trees and shrubs, fruit, house plants and more, according to a University Extension news release.
The phone number to call with your questions is 881-8909, ext. 320.
Master Gardener hotlines are also available through the MU Extension centers in Christian, Stone and Jasper Counties. Call your county extension center for more information.
