Missouri's Republican Governor Matt Blunt gave his State of the State Address Wednesday night, outlining his priorities for the legislative session. But earlier this week, House Democrats announced three priorities of their own. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.
Though House Democrats are in the minority, they say they've come up with three proposals that should garner bi-partisan support.
Republican Governor Matt Blunt and several Republican lawmakers say they support legislation that would limit access to products used to make the illegal drug methamphetamine.
Jeff Harris is the top democrat in the House.
He says Democrats support another anti-meth proposal.
Besides methamphetamine, Democrats are also going after so-called fee offices.
These are offices run by private individuals and companies that collect fees on behalf of the state.
Jeff Harris says historically, governors have given political contributors lucrative contracts to run fee offices.
It's unclear how Republican Governor Matt Blunt feels about competitive bidding for fee office.
But prior to the State of the State Address, the Commissioner of Administration Mike Keathley told reporters the governor wants to increase the number of fee offices in the state.
Besides wanting competitive bidding for fee offices, House Democrats say their third proposal would restrict children from buying adult video games.
House Democratic Leader Jeff Harris says too many children have access to inappropriate games.
Even though Democrats are in the minority in both the House and Senate, Jeff Harris says he hopes Republicans will support some of these ideas.
