Budget Compromise Allows Negotations to Move Forward

It appears Republican budgetwriters in the House and Senate have reached a compromise on how to craft a final version of the budget. The House had voted in favor of a budget plan that gave state department directors a lump sum to spend as they see fit.

But the Senate took a more traditional approach to the budget, laying out a detailed spending plan line by line.

The House gave in and is no longer pushing the lump sum plan...House budget chairman Carl Bearden.

Lawmakers have until Friday to send the governor a budget proposal.
