Several states have reported multiple instances of sick and dying songbirds.  Reports have come from at least nine states and the District of Columbia.  Wildlife officials in states such as Kentucky, Virginia, Maryland and Indiana have reported hundreds of dead birds, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation, due to a mysterious illness.

MDC said it has not seen that in Missouri, but it’s asking citizens to look out for and report any sick or dead birds they see.

Other states have reported birds with puffy eyes, seizures, shaking and other abnormal behavior.

If you notice birds with those symptoms in Missouri, send a report to WildlifeHealth@mdc.mo.gov

According to MDC, those with bird feeders should clean them at least monthly to stop the spread of diseases among birds.
