Bass Pro Shops founder, Johnny Morris, has purchased the former Dogpatch USA theme park property in northern Arkansas.

The site, in Newton County, is near the Buffalo National River.  Specific plans for the property are still being worked out, according to a news release.  It says “any possible future development will be an extension of Morris’ signature experiences that help families connect to nature and each other.”

Dogpatch USA was a theme park built in 1967 that featured a trout farm, horseback rides and amusement park rides.  The site has been vacant for several years, but some of the structures from the theme park remain.

Morris plans to restore a large natural spring on the site and bring back the trout hatchery.
