Anyone who is on Springfield’s sewer service will see a higher bill in August.
The City of Springfield said in a news release a planned sewer rate increase will begin July 1. The extra revenue will be used to improve the city’s aging sewer system and keep it in compliance with federal Clean Water Act regulations.
Springfield Environmental Services charges a base customer charge and an additional charge for each 100 cubic feet or CCF of water used, according to the city. An average residential customer uses six CCF and currently receives a bill of $34.20 per month. That rate will go up to $35.89.
The increase is the first in a series of increases approved by Springfield City Council in January. The rate structure will last through 2023.
Sewer service is billed by City Utilities on behalf of the City of Springfield.
