Springfield’s Park Central Square is one of four locations to be named Great Places in Missouri in 2015.

The Missouri Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) will recognize the downtown attraction at a ceremony Wednesday morning at the state capitol in Jefferson City.

Park Central Square joins the Katy Trail, and St. Louis’ Citygarden and South Grand Boulevard as this year’s honorees.

The Great Places in Missouri program began in 2014 to recognize neighborhoods, streets, and public spaces throughout the state that demonstrate exceptional character, quality and planning. It was modeled after the APA’s Great Places in America Program that has recognized 245 neighborhoods, streets, and public spaces around the country since 2007.

Wednesday’s recognition ceremony is set for 11:30 a.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda.
