Boo at the Bin “trash or treat” event
Springfield Environmental Services invites residents to Boo at the Bin, a family-friendly night of fun and recycling 5-7p.m., on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Lone Pine Avenue Recycling Center (3020 S. Lone Pine Avenue).
City Solid Waste division staff will greet guests in full costume sharing recycling trivia and a treat as attendees make their way around the recycling bins.
“We’re excited to use Halloween fun, costumes and treats to welcome families into this popular community facility to learn about trash and recycling,” says Superintendent of Solid Waste Dan Jessen.
The Lone Pine Avenue Recycling Center is the busiest of the three City-managed recycling drop-off facilities in Springfield, welcoming an average 210,000 visitors per year and helping residents divert 2.8 million pounds of recyclable material from the City’s landfill annually.
“Lone Pine is not only a bustling, efficient facility, but we’ve seen it become a neighborhood hub where visitors greet each other and chat with their neighbors all while doing their part to help reduce waste in our community,” says Jessen. “We hope to continue this community connection as we plan improvements to the facility over the next few years.”
The Lone Pine Avenue Recycling Center will be closed to general recycling drop-off functions during this after-hours event to allow for safe parking and pedestrian access around the facility. To drop off recycling, please visit the facility during normal operating hours 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday.
