Blue Stockings - Presented by Missouri State Theatre & Dance
In an era when a woman riding a bicycle was seen as a scandal, women seeking higher education were branded as “unmarriageable” and a threat to society. So it was in 1896 when Girton College opened its doors to a group of scholarly young women. Against the backdrop of the women’s suffrage movement, they pursue their academic ambitions and push for Cambridge University to award them formal degrees. The women face vehement — sometimes violent — opposition in their quest for equality. An eye-opening historical drama, "Blue Stockings" reminds us that progress has a price, and the struggle continues.
