Drury University and the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce are hosting a celebration next Thursday for the grand opening of Drury’s Commercial Street location. KSMU’s Brittany Donnellan has details.
Drury on C-Street opened in September of last year. Mark Miller, a Drury spokesperson, says the C-Street location offers students a variety of real-world work opportunities.
“We really look at Drury on C-Street as a win-win for the university and the city of Springfield. The highlights of the space are an area for architecture classes, a fiber-arts studio that includes weaving, a business resource center where students help businesses and organizations on C-Street and an art gallery that features artwork from students and professional artists,” Miller said.
To fund the project, Drury received a loan from the Community Foundation of the Ozarks in 2011. Drury has already received enough pledges to pay back the loan within the five-year window.
Drury on C-Street is located at 233 East Commercial Street. For more information, you can visit drury.edu
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held next Thursday at 11 a.m. The ceremony will also celebrate the opening of the Harriet Mears Weaving Studio inside the C-Street location.
