missouri Department of Economic Development officials were in Springfield to share information about the new "Jobs Now" program. Mike Smith has the story:

Missouri Department of Economic Development officials hosted a public meeting in Springfield Tuesday Aug 24th where they shared information on some of the newest programs now available to help Missouri communities address infrastructure needs and remain competitive in the global economy.

The meeting is one of several that are being held at various locations across the state this week, to inform and educate the Department's partners about the "Jobs Now" Act recently signed into law by Governor Holden.

Department of Economic Development officials say the want Missouri business and community leaders to know how these incentives can be used to create new jobs.

Jason Archer is the Director of the Department's Office of Governmental Affairs. He says the "Jobs Now" Act includes several economic development components. It calls for enhanced enterprise zones that will provide qualifying communities with the opportunity to offer tax incentives as an incentive to attract new business and jobs. Archer says the act also creates funding opportunities for cities and counties to access grants or low interest loans for public infrastructure projects.

According to the JOBS NOW legislation, communities seeking grants or loans through the new program, must apply to the Missouri Development Finance Board and the Jobs Now Recommendation Committee. For information'573-751-4962.
